Saturday Night Party Reviews

203-205 The Internet Cafe featured Ctein's 1st anniversary Online Gallery party. It won the Most Exotic Munchies Award of the night (though the competition between it and the 372 ASB party was fierce). There was smoked salmon, pate', cheddar cheese and even fancier cheeses, cider, crackers, triscuits and baklava. Thinking of all possibilities, there were even handi-wipes for after one consumed the baklava. (Hopefully the handi-wipes were not eaten.) A selection of Ctein's artworks were available for viewing online and they were wonderful.

209 Contact Party was the only party using a screwdriver as part of an art mobile. The party featured anthropologist Jim Funaro; beer, red and white wines, chips, salsa, grapes, raisins, pretzels, M&Ms, olives, carrots and olives.

220 The Genetic Accident Party accidentally forgot to be held.

245 Golden Gate Gaylactic party offered Star Trek on the tube and crackers, M&Ms, chips, chocolate kisses, four types of cookies, peanuts and one of the centerpieces from the Meet the Guests party last night.

Animated GIF of Fur Dance249 The Yarf! Party had the Fur Dance on the patio outside and excellent artwork inside. "Toy Story" played inside to a rapt audience, while varied pastries, donuts, chips, crackers and Twinkies were the munchies of choice.

256 San Francisco in 2002 Worldcon Bid Party was held under the signs of Haight and Ashbury, just past the hanging beads. There were flowers in the air and the munchies du joir included homemade brownies, M&Ms, crackers, corn chips, tortilla chips, salsa, cookies and soda.

257 Mara's Bar: Klingon Lingerie party was the repeat winner of the Best Decorated Room award! Weapons everywhere, a bevy of banners, candles for atmosphere, incense to add scent to the atmosphere, torches alit on the patio outside and the skins of many an IRS agent strewn on the floor. Young children were scared off as we waited. (They could tell that the hosts WERE Klingons and not just guys in good costumes!). There was an open bar, good air conditioning, soda, more suspicious fluids, gummi bears, chips, M&Ms, gummi worms (they were LOOKING at me, Ray) and great conversation, such as: "Sugar-covered GoGH - it"s not just for breakfast anymore" and "They were passing out Federation condoms at another party - all sized small."

258-260 The Nexxus/Con Suite (with some of the artwork in the room done by artist Frank Lurz) was still filled with music to sail a starship by as Carl Boiteux and Corey Rosen tended bar, offering their own recipes of such favorites as Trixian Jungle Juice, the non-acidic version of the Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, Alderian brandy, Reisian lemonade, Klingon blood wine of mixed hemotypes, Romulan ale and Aldebran whiskey. Meanwhile, the technicolor cake was sacrificed on the altar of appetite and other yummies were various candies, party mix, pretzels, chips, salsa, goldfish, cookies and red licorice whips.

273 Ladyhawke Party is an annual favorite among fans. This year the water jug has a new incontinent little friend (another water jug, so at least it's dating within its own species this time). Lovely fanzines and CDs were offered for sale and the munchies offered were lots of fresh veggies (radishes, celery, carrots, turnips, broccoli), salsa and chips, cubes of cheeses, potato chips, two types of dip, crackers, party mix, soda and juice boxes.

316 Mythopoetic Party was MIA

317 J.A.G. Redubbed Anime Video party No Coke. Pepsi...with chips. Fan-dubbed Anime on the screen, done for laughs. Some hits. Some misses.

341-343 Starcraft and Justice League Party was packed as they conducted the countdown on the 20th year anniversary of Star Wars. The party hosts are those well-costumed folks running around in the great Star Wars theme costumes this Con. Helmets a-plenty lined the walls and, of course, the Star Wars music was playing on a boom box. Viands offered were chips, dried womp rat, cous-cous, pretzels, various chocolates, carrots, cauliflower, bananas, peanuts, cold milk and really weird colored blender drinks. This party was awarded the Best Theme of the evening prize.

347 The USS Northern Lights Annual Refit Party fed the attendees chips, salsa, party mix, soda and juice boxes. Again they had the best video on any tube, as they showed the anime 'Slayers'. Of course, then they ruined the mood by showing way too much 'Weird TV' rather than showing the B5 bloopers they had promised and thus earn a mixed review.

354 Westercon 50 & Seattle in 2002 Worldcon =Bid Parties - had nice logos. They offered apples, baloney, salami, cheese, chocolate peanut clusters, cheetos, Doritios, M&Ms, carrots, broccoli, crackers and triscuits to put on apple-shaped napkins.

362 The X-Files Party was nothing to worry about, ma'am, pay it no mind. The lighting was varied shades of red, green and blue and classified maps and pictures adorned the walls. Candles, LOUD music and Agents Bynum, Kahwaty and Costa (he of the very touchable silk suit jacket) all added to the atmosphere of distrust. The munchies may have been butter cookies, soda, red licorice, chips, cheezits, M&Ms Ñ but it could have been a mass hallucination. One thing for sure: from their balcony you COULD see a grassy knoll.

367 Philadelphia in 2001 Worldcon Bid party - which will be "The Millennium Philcon" if they win their bid - had big chocolate chip cookies, pretzels, angel food cake, homemade cheesecake, Hershey's kisses, two kinds of grapes, trail mix and crackers. While I was there, the phone rang and someone asked for Martin McClure, who WAS at the party. His first question was, "How did you know I'd be here?" (as others warned that it could be someone from the X-Files party). But the call resolved peacefully.

372 The ASB Party featured pretty floggers, fine wine, lovely rope-work and nice massages. A kiss performed during some violet wand play inspired the response, "That was a kiss with some electricity in it!" The well attended party offered pilaf with pine nuts, brie plus many other cheeses, smoked salmon with roe, apple pie, cantaloupe, a boar's head (decorative) and several other exotic munchies.

Incredulous remark overheard at the Coffee Garden: "You mean Klingons drink orange juice?" Response: "Only from oranges that we hunt down and capture ourselves and then squeeze the life from!"
