BayCon 1999 Dances

Friday Night

Swing, swing, swing! Dance the night away to Big Bands and the exuberant fun of Swing! Light teaching by Paul Lee and Jennie Redwitz of PEERS and numerous Bay Area workshops. The steps are easy, the music is great, stocking feet are allowed, and you won't have to tell your parents what you're doing in their living room!

Saturday Night

There will be a dance and masquerade at the Alice Through the Looking Glass Masked Ball. However, you might want to examine the general rules to help you. This will be a one-of a kind event, so don't miss it!

Sunday Night Dance "A Contact Moment"

Welcome to Pensicola, Florida, or should I say the alien version of Pensicola, Florida. Come join us on Sunday night to enjoy the fun and sun, oops sorry, the fun and outer space of our beach dance. Inspired by Contact's alien starscape of Pensicola, Florida. So come dressed for warm weather, I've been told it gets hot out there.

Regency Dancing - Sunday Night

In BayCon tradition, Alan Winston will lead Regency dancing. The English Regency (strictly 1811-1820) is the era of Austen, Byron, Shelley, Nelson, Wellington, the setting of Georgette Heyer and Patrick O'Brian novels, Bernard Cornwall's Sharpe series, and the age of Napoleon, country dance was the ballroom dance of the time.

One of the piquant pleasures of Regency dancing at the convention is watching the dancers and their costumes. In addition to the many people in T-shirts and jeans, you may see Miss Elizabeth Bennet waltzing with Darth Vader, and Fitzwilliam Darcy with Commander Ivanova.

Even if you have never danced before, with Alan Winston's friendly, clear instruction you will soon be dancing the night away, You needn't bring a partner - we'll swap around after every dance. So you have no excuse, for you not to come and try something new.

Presented by BAERS, the Bay Area English Regency Society. You are cordially invited to BAERS events outside BayCon as well.
