Ba yCo n 20 0 0 Charity Auction & Blood Drive

The 17th San Francisco Bay Area Regional Science Fiction & Fantasy Convention

  Charity Auction
Sunday, 1pm - Upstairs Ballroom Foyer
Each year BayCon selects a recipient for our charity drive that we feel has a direct impact on our local community. In the past Baycon and its members have raised between $1,500 - $3,000 for charities that in some way help influence the Science Fiction community. This year we selected the Friends of the California Air & Space Center - a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that is trying to raise community awareness and support of the California Air & Space Center, and to provide programs of interest to California Air & Space Center supporters.

Friends of the California Air & Space Center is a nonprofit educational and entertainment resource which will serve the mid-Peninsula, the Bay Area, the state of California, and the nation. This visionary concept is being spearheaded by NASA Ames Research Center in partnership with the cities of Mountain View and Sunnyvale.

With historic Hangar One designated as its future home at the Ames Research Center at Moffett Airfield, Mountain View, CA, the California Air & Space Center will showcase America's achievements in aeronautics and space. It will also support the mission of NASA at the Ames Research Center, heighten public awareness of the importance of science and technology to our future, especially among our youth, and expand the cultural, educational and entertainment opportunities available in Northern California and, specifically, the Silicon Valley.

When completed, it is expected that the facility will become a world-class educational center and gateway to scientific and technological knowledge for students, educators and the general public.

If you wish for more information on the Friends of the California Air & Space Center or of California Air & Space Center, please feel free to visit their web site at http://casc.arc.nasa.gov.

At this time, BayCon has a few items for our Auction, but we are always looking for more. Some of the items that we have so far;
  • A signed picture of the cast of Babylon Project: Crusade
  • A signed copy of James Gurney: First Flight (3rd book in the Dinotopia Series)
  • A signed Red Drawf Video by Craig "Dave Lister" Charles
  • An assortment of videos from Animeigo.

If you would like to donate an item or two to the Charity Auction, there is still time. Please contact Sara Elsbernd via email: Sara@Elsbernd.net to find out how to send your donation in before the convention or at the convention you can just take the item or items to Con-Ops and let them know it is for the Charity Action on Sunday. Please include a note stating who or what organization is that has donated the item, the worth of the item, any other pertinent info regarding the item, and a mailing address and contact person so that we can send you a Thank You letter. We do appreciate all and any donations made.

Blood Drive

Every year BayCon also holds a Blood Drive. This year it will be on Saturday, from Noon to 3:30pm (possibly later - check at the con).

Please donate! Last year, all the blood donated at the BayCon Blood Drive was used up in less than a week! You can see that all the donated blood is put to immediate use, and they could always use more.
