| BayCon's Music Programme this year will feature a wide assortment of guests, playing everything from filk and fantasy to classical Celtic. Concerts will be held Friday and Sunday nights. Look for all-night filking throughout the convention, and the return of the ever-popular Son of the Bride of the Brother of the Daughter of the Ex-Wife of the Dog of the Drum Thing. Please, stop by, listen, and maybe you can find yourself a few new songs to sing. Concerts
Avalon Rising -- Medieval/Celtic/Fantasy Rock at its finest! One of BayCon's best-kept secrets, Avalon Rising returns for its 7th year. Expect a magical evening of powerful, beautiful, swirling sound, suitable for dancing, listening, and/or doing laundry, drugs, or the person next to you. For those unfamiliar with the band, AR's core consists of the twin talents of Margaret Davis (voice, harp, flute, recorders) and Kristoph Klover (voice, electric and acoustic 6- and 12-string guitars, cittern). Their unusual respective backgrounds in French Medieval music and psychedelic rock make for a unique sound unmatched by their Bay Area contemporaries (which include Annwn, Tempest, and the legendary Phoenyx). Following the impact of their best-selling debut album, Avalon Rising has undergone a rebuilding over the past year, adding the talents of electric violinist Cat Taylor and bassist/mandocellist/vocalist Mark Ungar (both alumni of Phoenyx), and drummer Kevin Fanning (whose field drum drives the Brunos and Newcastle English Country Dance at the Ren Fairs). Former member Deirdre McCarthy will rejoin the band on percussion and vocals for this performance only! Filk Filking begins every night at 8:00 PM in the San Jose room.
