GAMING |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Thousands upon thousands of years ago, a great, highly advanced, intelligent life form, completely alien in structure in comparison to us, came to the still forming mass, that would one day be called the earth, and set forth a plan of planetary gene seeding, in order to birth a new, advanced life form that would take its place amongst the other sentient, intelligent creatures of the universe.
All was going well, until E. Gary Gygax came along and introduced Dungeons and Dragons. Now, all hell's broken lose and the space aliens aren't too happy.
So, come on down, show the weirdos from another star that gaming is right up there with contemplating vegetable matter.
Bring your cards; bring your books; bring your board games, 'cause BayCon gaming is going on 24 hours a day for the entire con.
If you are planning on running a game and want people to know about it, e-mail me, Tull, at:
its_dooms_day_2000@yahoo.com
Hope to see you all there.

ICEHOUSE |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
West Coast Icehouse 3 tournament
Icehouse is a unique strategy game, a board game without turns -- or even a board.
Games Magazine, who listed it in their Games 100 in 1993, described it as, "A game like no other!"
Players place pyramidal game pieces, in real-time, from storage into the field of play, with pyramids pointing upward representing defense, and lying on their side representing attacks. The
game combines strategic thinking, light diplomacy, and some hand-eye coordination -- and you've never played anything like it.
It was co-designed by Andy
Looney (Fluxx, Chrononauts, Aquarius) and John Cooper (Zarcana), and the pieces are once again available from Looney Labs, as of November
1999; they have become a sort of game design toolkit
There will be a teaching session before the tournament, so don't let the fact that you haven't played before stop you from signing up! Last year (for the second year in a row), a player who had never played before walked away with the trophy and prize (did we mention
that there would be loot for the winning?) -- you could be next!
BIO
Eric Zuckerman, your host, has been playing Icehouse avidly since 1992, was the CTI medalist at the 11th International Icehouse Tournament, and in 1999 staged West Coast Icehouse 1, the first-ever Icehouse tournament west of Ohio, at BayCon (which was also
the home of WCI2 in 2000). He teaches and plays Icehouse every chance he
gets; you may have seen him and his colorful little pyramids at California
conventions in the past. He is also a charter member of the Mad Lab Rabbits, Looney Labs's volunteer cadre of games evangelists.

OGRE |

 |

OGRE Tournament
In the year 2085, a tank duel lasts only seconds.
An entire battle is over in minutes.
Nuke-firing infantrymen dodge across the battlefield, trying to come to grips with enemy armor.
Hover-craft own the clear terrain, but heavy and superheavy tanks can grind through forest like it wasn't there.
Come celebrate Steve Jackson Games' re-release of the OGRE miniatures line, starting with Deluxe OGRE and Deluxe GEV.
We'll be playing on a large terrain board, and loaner miniatures can be supplied.
If you'd like to bring your own force, be ready with up to 48 points of vehicles and infantry.
Prizes courtesy of Steve Jackson Games.
The tournaments will be held saturday and sunday, starting at 1pm with a rules/intoduction session, and run until finished or 5pm.

ULTIMA ON-LINE GATHERING |

ULTIMA ON-LINE GATHERING
Hail and well met...
I am Lord Minauros and I have been a player
of Ultima Online for over 3.5 years and been a
Baycon convention goer for about 4 years. The UO
Gathering is planned for May 25th - 27th and will be
located at the Doubletree Hotel, San Jose,
California, the same weekend as a Sci-Fi convention
called BAYCON. I came up with a idea that at this
year's convention I would try and plan to get a
group of UO players together to meet each other to
discuss things we like or dislike in the game or on
the shards we play on. We can also sit around and
tell of glorious battles and quests we have
participated in. I will be putting up signs by the
elevators of the hotel with my hotel room number and
ways ye can reach me.
Now for theimportant info...info about hotel rates
can be found on this page but if ye are going to
reserve a room do so ASAP becuase the hotel will get
very full with other convention goers. Be sure to
mention the convention name BAYCON to get the
discounted room rate. There is a Denny's and a
McDonalds within walking distance of the hotel or
there is the hotel resturaunt which has prices
comparitive to Marie Callenders and such.
Now for the fun stuff... the convention itself has a
registration in order to participate in the con run
events like the dances and casino night and a few of
the parties require a registration. You can register
at the hotel for 70 dollars for the whole weekend or
you can register there on a day by day basis if you
only plan on being there 1 or 2 days. The con also
has discussion panels on various subjects anywhere
from Anime to Sci-Fi... if you are a roleplayer or
are into CCG's like Magic: The Gathering they also
will have a room setup for people to play games in.
If you are planning on reserving a room and would
like to help with maybe sharing the costs and do not
mind having a roommate that you do not know please
reply to this e-mail and let me know and I will see
who else that is coming to this gathering would want
to maybe share a room either for 1 or more nights.
So far including myself there is about 10 people
coming for this UO gathering and if it is a big hit
this year then next year I will try to have
something publicized in the convention newsletter
and try to see about getting a OSI Rep. to maybe
come and answer questions for us. If you need
anymore info please feel free to e-mail me at
minauros@charter.net.
Sincerely
Lord Minauros
Sonoma Shard
