BayCon 2007 BayCon's New Hotel

Regency Dancing

Friday 8:00pm Lombard / Synergy 4
Sunday 8:00pm Cannery / Synergy 1

BayCon 2007 is pleased to present Regency Dancing on Friday and Sunday nights.

The English Regency (strictly 1811-1820) was the era of Austen, Byron, Shelley, Nelson, and Wellington. It was also the setting of Georgette Heyer and Patrick O'Brien novels, Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series, and the age of Napoleon. Country Dance was the ballroom dance of the time. The Regency era has had a broad influence on everything from literature to music and dance. Regency Dancing has become a staple of science fiction conventions and fandom.

One of the piquant pleasures of Regency Dancing at the convention is watching the dancers and their costumes. In addition to the many people in T-shirts and jeans, you will see Miss Elizabeth Bennet waltzing with Darth Vader, and Fitzwilliam Darcy dancing with Commander Ivannova.

Even if you have never danced before, with Alan Winston's friendly, clear instruction you will soon be dancing the night away. You needn't bring a partner — we will swap around after every dance. So you have no excuse to not come and try something new.
