Alameda County has been sued for failing to properly maintain and disclose data from electronic voting machines in a disputed 2004 election.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has suggested we decertify some machines (direct record electronic machines) as there is no independent way to verify the election.

California's Secretary of State has asked computer scientists from UC Berkeley and UC Davis to try to hack the systems.
